Have You Ever Wondered How to Connect with People in Our Church?
Are you looking to establish connections with individuals beyond your own age group or existing relationships?
If that sounds like you, then ‘Salt Shakers’ is the ideal opportunity! In this program, randomly assigned groups of six (including both couples and singles) gather at a host home for a potluck meal.
- There are no set agendas
- The atmosphere is very informal
- It allows you to engage in meaningful conversations rather than a quick greeting on Sunday.
What is a Host and how do you participate?
A host home can consist of a couple or a single who would like to host and open their home to the group of 6 participants (even 2 friends can host together)
- will provide the main protein for dinner along with beverages
- will contact their assigned group to pick a date for dinner (within a time frame) and assign food to bring
- will commit to the year (3 times of Salt Shaker groups)
What is a Participant in Salt Shakers and how to participate?
- Any person or couple can just sign up through the church website or call the church office
- will provide the other components to the meal (appetizers, salad, vegetables, rolls, etc.)
- Participants will rotate 3 times this year to a different host home, and each group will change in participants
Coordinators of Salt Shakers, along with the Congregational life team, will be organizing the hosts with the participants each time with a random selection tool to “shake up” each group for each host dinner.
We look forward to having you join us for this delightful opportunity to share in the breaking of bread and deepening our blood-bought relationships through biblical hospitality and fellowship!
Your Coordinators,
Jennifer & Jim Talley
Frequently Asked Questions
- What if I encounter an unforeseen conflict on the day of the event? Simply reach out to your host to inform them that you won’t be able to attend.
- What if I have a food allergy or sensitivity? The registration form you fill out will provide an option to note any food-related concerns you may have.
- Can I be a host and a participant? Not at this time. we need hosts to be hosts and open their home for the 3 dinners. Fortunantly, your group will be different for each dinner.
- Is there a bible or book study we will use? The salt shaker program intends to gather people in our church to get to know each other in a more meaningful way through an informal setting. No bible study or book study to work through...just authentic conversation and fellowship.
- Will there be alcohol served at the dinners? We are asking hosts to refrain from serving alcohol during these dinners for the obvious reason that participants will be driving home. Also, some maybe abstaining from alcohol and we want to respect this decision and privacy.
- What if I decide after our first Salt Shaker meal that this program is not for me or us? Feel free to reach out to the coordinators, knowing that you can stop participating in Salt Shakers at any time.
- What if I’m a host but something happens that requires us to withdraw from the program? Please contact the salt shaker coordinators to inform them of your situation.
- What if I am a single participant? The purpose of Salt Shakers is to help you connect better with your church family, even as a single adult. Please note that this program is not intended as a dating tool. If you have a close friend you'd like to sign up with, mention that on the sign-up form that you two want to attend together.
- Can our children attend these dinners? As of now, the Salt Shaker program is intended for adults only. Unfortunantly we can’t provide childcare at this time.
