The Summit
Amazing things can happen on mountains. Through out the Bible, God has revealed Himself in special ways on top of mountains. Remember what God did on Mt. Sinai with Moses and the mighty miracles on Mt. Carmel through Elijah? Jesus gave a famous sermon on the mount and frequently retreated to the mountains to pray and be alone with His Father. So it is no surprise that Jesus would reveal a glimpse of His glory on a high mountain. Jesus had His own version of a “small group” with 3 of His disciples on top of the so-called Mount of Transfiguration. We can only imagine what Peter, James and John experienced with Jesus on the mountain. We do know that after being with Jesus the 3 men were never the same.

There is a new ministry that was inspired by the experience on the Mount of Transfiguration as recorded in Matthew 17. This new ministry is called the Summit. The Ministry to Families and Children (MFC) developed the Summit out of a growing need for children’s discipleship during Family Gathering.

So what is the Summit?

The Summit is a discipleship ministry for 1st – 5th graders. It meets at 6:15 pm on Wednesday nights during Family Gathering in the fellowship hall in the C.L.C.

In a nutshell the Summit is about relational discipleship through worship and small groups.

At the Summit your child will experience 4 key components

1. Worship. The first thing we do is lift our hearts and minds up to the Lord in age appropriate worship filled with God-centered songs.

2. Make it real. This component is the creative introduction to the attribute of God that we will discus in small groups. It is a multi-sensory part that will use drama, video, role-play and other things to engage the minds of the students.

3. Small Groups. There are 10 small groups divided up by grade and gender. We have an amazing group of well-trained leaders that are excited about seeing children grow in Christ!

4. The Summit Challenge. This is the final part of the night. It provides a quick summary of what the small groups discussed in fun way to help them retain what they learned.

Our church’s mission statement is ”To know Jesus Christ and make Him known”. The Ministry to Families and Children vision for the Summit falls perfectly in line with the mission of our church. When a child comes to the Summit he or she will be challenged to know God through His attributes. This means that your child will explore how God is all-powerful, everywhere, knows everything and never changes. We will dive deep into God’s holiness, righteousness, mercy, love, grace and joy to name a few. This ministry is all about children knowing and worshiping the Lord God Almighty. We know that Family Gathering is a challenge for many families. The Summit is a perfect mid – week event to refuel and refocus children during a busy week.
